The Gospel of Mark is the shortest of the synoptic Gospels. The narrative of the book can be divided into 2 distinct sections – Jesus’ ministry in Galilee and the events of His journey toward Jerusalem and the Cross, with His Messianic identity essentially underlying the whole Gospel. Mark portrays Jesus as the Servant, His work always serving a greater purpose for God.
Mark places great emphasis on the power of God manifesting through Christ’s presence and ministry. The disciples also had a hard time breaking away from the Jewish idea of the anticipated Kingly presence of The Messiah to accepting the Messiah Himself. Jesus as the Messiah was serving as a humble Servant, to the point of dying for our sins.
