Introduction To The New Testament

The 27-book canon of the New Testament was written over roughly 50 years, proclaiming the life and gospel of Jesus Christ. The 4 gospels in particular had 4 different audiences. They are not typical biographies, as one third of them focuses on His death, the most important event in history. The New Testament serves as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies of God’s covenant with His people, and ends with the establishment of a new Kingdom on Earth.

The gospels show us the salvation of Christ. In the Old Testament, the old order, patriarchs, prophets, princes and priests had all failed and God’s people had fallen away spiritually. A new order was needed, which would be completed through Jesus as prophet, Priest and King.
